The European Database of Libraries Ltd.

The company was created in 1990 by its founder Alan Armstrong.

The database was then built country by country whilst being used by customers during the development period. The database has further developed over the last 20 years and continues to expand with accuracy.

The company is based in a country house set within the Hambleden valley in the heart of the Chilterns.

The European Database of Libraries has not changed ownership since it was created and has retained all the original staff, accountants and bankers. The company has remained profitable each year since its conception.

Margaret enjoyed an early career in banking. In 1975 she became an international bookseller selling exclusively to libraries. She was a bibliographic data specialist working closely with international publishers to generate library sales.

In 1991 she joined this company as database manager and continues to this day to help and encourage publishers and information providers to reach and sell to likely buyers throughout Britain and the rest of Europe.

Tom graduated in international business studies in 2000. His career started within the world of records management, documentation and data storage.

In 2003 he joined the European Database of Libraries Ltd as Business Development Manager, working directly with international publishers on direct targeting of libraries to win sales.

In 2007 he became Director of Sales and Marketing.

Alan is a qualified librarian and information scientist. 1962–1964 he was a librarian in Westminster City Reference Library in London. 1964–1968 he was European technical librarian of an engineering subsidiary of Pullman Inc of Chicago. From 1968–1972 he was business librarian of Kellogg International Corp – a subsidiary of the MW Kellogg Co of Piscataway, New Jersey. From 1972–1989 he was a specialist bookseller to international libraries.

In 1988 he originated the company and founded the European Database of Libraries Ltd. He continues to work closely with publishers and information providers to build up library sales.
